Kurt was on his side of the partition, suitcase opened on his bed and clothes scattered about as he searched for what he wanted to bring to Ohio. His flight was scheduled for early the next morning and he had already emailed his professors and texted Adam about his impending absence for a "family emergency."
He heard the front door slide open and then closed again and he called out, "Hi, Rachel," as he folded a few sweaters, placing them in the bag.

"Hey, Kurt! I picked up some Thai on the way home, you hungry?" she called back, hanging her coat and kicking off the stylish boots Kurt had helped her pick out a couple of months before, when the weather started getting worse. "I got your favorite!" she added, walking to the little kitchen area with the bag of takeout.

"Gimme a sec," he said, "I have a few more things to do in here and then I'll be out."
Kurt hadn't told Rachel that he was going back to Ohio, to Blaine. He hadn't told her about their conversation on the phone. How could he?

"Okay!" Rachel took the boxes from the bag and set out plates, silverware, and glasses. Then she skipped over to his side of the loft. "So, Brody and I had the best time this weekend. First he took me to- What are you doing?" she asked, cocking her head to the side, when she saw him with an open suitcase half-full of clothes.

Kurt blinked over at her, "Um, packing," he said, calmly, throwing a pair of jeans in the suitcase. He decided to approach the situation cooly, trying not to start another fight.

"I see that," Rachel replied, crossing her arms and frowning. "But why?" She didn't want Kurt to go, he was her best friend. She needed him here! Her eyes widened. "Is it your dad?" If he had had another heart attack, or if his cancer was worse than they'd thought, she'd understand him wanting to go home, but there really wasn't anything he could in Ohio that he couldn't in New York.

"No, no, not Dad," he said, trying to be avoid the question. He hummed quietly as he deliberated between two pairs of boots, "It's... something else."

"Kurt, you've got responsibilities here, school and friends, you can't just go home for no reason. What's going on?" she demanded, putting her hands on her hips, frowning. "Your classes aren't too hard, are they? You haven't said anything about it, but I wouldn't be surprised; it's a very challenging transition. But that's not a reason to go home, we can get you through them!"

"I already emailed my professors and got in touch with the people that needed to know I'll be gone," he said cooly, "And, no, it's not my classes. It's... It's Blaine."

Rachel sighed. "Kurt, really? You need to move past him. He's a big boy, he can handle whatever's going on at McKinley, and you aren't his boyfriend anymore. He can't expect you to just hop a plane when he asks you to. Look, come eat some food, and we'll talk about whatever his problem is. Maybe we can come up with some advice for him."

Kurt scowled at her, "First of all, he didn't ask me to. Secondly, he doesn't need advice, he needs me." He continued to fold clothes and put them in the suitcase, adding an extra pair of gloves and a few scarves.

"Don't get mad at me, Kurt! I'm just trying to help. I know you're trying to be friends again, but that is so hard to do, trust me," she sighed, rolling her eyes. "What's even going on with him? Maybe I can help."

"It's more than just trying to be friends," he said, "And all you need to know is that it's something about that night." He assumed Rachel would understand what he meant about "that night", but he didn't want to give her anymore detail.

Rachel blinked and raised her eyebrows. "You're going home to talk to him about the night he cheated on you? That's what phones are for, Kurt." Then she frowned. "And what could he possibly need you for about that night? Unless--" She gasped, eyes going wide. "He didn't get pregnant, did he?"

Kurt flinched, the possibility of that had never occurred to him, and while he knew it hadn't happened he still felt nauseous. "No," he said sharply, "And I'm not going to talk to him about it, we already did that. I can't tell you why, but I really do need to go."
